Hi, I’m Dex 👋 - I’m a teacher based in Auckland, NZ, and I’m really into languages and cultural exchange 🌏
English is my native language, and I speak some Malay, Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese, and bits of Arabic, Russian, and Kirundi — still learning and always improving. I genuinely enjoy the process of learning languages and how they connect to culture and everyday life. I just got back from 2 years living and teaching in Asia, so it's good to be home!
Naturally, being a teacher, I have friends from all over the world and all of my friends were massively multicultural growing up, hence my culture and ability to speak multiple languages
I’m happy to help with English conversation, pronunciation, or natural expressions, and I’m especially keen to practice Japanese, Mandarin, or Korean.
I enjoy relaxed chats over coffee or a drink ☕, talking about culture, travel, food, and daily life. Easy-going, respectful, and genuinely curious.

I am a retired school teacher and children's choir director. I love singing, nature, walking, puzzles, and board games. I'm learning Spanish because we travel every summer to a home where we stay in Lanzarote, Canary Islands. Plus it's good for my brain! I am at Spanish level A2, almost B1. I would love to have more practice regularly speaking Spanish with a patient native speaker, and to help you practice English.
Soy maestra jubilada y directora de coro infantil. Me encanta cantar, la naturaleza, caminar, los rompecabezas y los juegos de mesa. Estoy aprendiendo español porque viajamos todos los veranos a una casa donde nos alojamos en Lanzarote, Islas Canarias. ¡Además, es bueno para mi cerebro! Tengo un nivel de español A2, casi B1. Me encantaría practicar español regularmente con un hablante nativo paciente y ayudarte a practicar inglés.
