I'm Dakota! I live in Victoria, British Columbia (west coast), Canada. I work freelance and also do music part-time. I play in a few bands around town—mostly jazz, hip hop, and R&B. Lately, I've been enjoying learning new languages as a hobby! About a year ago, my partner and I decided to go travelling to Japan and Southeast Asia, so I made the decision to study Japanese before we set off. I did my best and even though I could only have very, very basic conversations and order food in restaurants and konbinis (that's some crucial stuff, though), it was enough to deepen my experience and made my time there more enjoyable.

Ever since I got back, I've returned to studying Japanese daily. I've now been at it for about a year. I still feel pretty new to it—it's hard! I don't really have any strict goals, but I want to be able to have more in-depth conversations with people and listen and read more. And I'm happy to help anyone improve with their English too!
